Professionally, I am a a civil servant. During my off periods, I do a bit of volunteering with Club Rainbow. In addition to that, I have just recently (abt 9 mths) embarked on a journey of being a mother. Well, all these put together, life can be extremely hectic, should I not be able to manage my time wisely.

I work for five days in a week. Saturdays and Sundays are times spent for my family. I am also grateful that my spouse is also working five days in a week. That means, we get to really talk and spend time together during the weekends.

As for volunteering. I do it either during weekdays or weekends. As I am with Club Rainbow, my time is quite flexible in a sense that, whenever I wish to meet my appointed child, I may do so, given prior notice to the parents. Sometimes, I do bring the child out on weekends, to spend time with my family. She enjoys playing with my baby girl and they have certainly built a rapport with each other. On this note, I have my very supportive husband to thank for being very understanding and supports whatever social work that I wish to do besides my normal work.

That's really cool. We make time for the things that matter to us.

I believe there're also many working mothers/ fathers among the Prison volunteers. really appreciate them making time to contribute to the rehab and reintegration of offenders.

nice to know people still do care about others. most of us takes love and care as granted, pls change your view... nothing is granted in this world, appreciate things while you still can before its too late

The reason for me who always looked forward to become 21 years old so as to join this volunteer service is because:

1: I can understand exactly how the prisoners feel.

2: Even though i was not being sentenced to the prison, i was nearly being sentenced to the prison because of some stupid offences i have committed with my accomplice a few years back. (Yes, i call it stupid offence because it is indeed stupid for us to do that). I was lucky that i was 15 years old and was placed on a 1 and a half month probation instead. Now i am 21 years old and seeing this forum make me laugh at myself for being stupid, greedy, rash and impatient.

I am going overseas to study soon and i would like to know whether i could still volunteer for the job or not and will volunteer whenever i return from overseas? I have been to the prison visit and have done the footdrills (Very challenging) and have experienced the prison life (During the prison visit which lasted for 1 day)<--OMG, i cannot stand that type life at all!!!...Luckily i was not sentenced to prison. *Sign of relief*

~~And because of some problems, i have decided to help the prisoners to reform and to mould them back to be useful, contributing and honest citizen. I believe they can be moulded but it takes time to prove it. ~~

When I look at the volunteers to Prisons, I really admire the perseverance and efforts put in by them...having to come after work for some of them, or on weekends where they could be spending time with family members. I guess it's the passion to impart knowledge, skills, and also to encourage many of these inmates who may have taken a wrong step in life.

Thanks, volunteers!

i always wanted to be a member of volunteers' team however lots of factor had stopped me by step in...

i guess to be a volunteer would need to equip professional and relevant skills.

we really have to be passionate in what you wanted to do.

you must have time to do it and be persistent in what you are doing.

be open to adapt what you will go thru...

Hi

Being a volunteer requires more than just skills and knowledge, I personally believe it requires a big dose of passion for the cause that you're volunteering in.

As a volunteer, one may not see the immediate returns of the fruit of our labour, unlike working where we receive our salary at the end of each month. That's where each volunteer's passion would spur them on....and I believe that there're returns each will eventually reap. I've heard many of the prison volunteers share that they are personally enriched through their volunteering with the inmates.

The spirit of volunteerism is very important nowadays especially with all the misery and hardships around us. It's always self gratifying to extend a helping hand to our less fortunate brothers and sisters.

It's nice to know that there are still people in the world who truly care and are willing to give their effort and time to help those who needed them.

Though they said the world is full of bad people, good ones are still there. Filling the gap between enemies and extending love and help to those who badly need them.
