Prison Volunteers' Community

What's in store for our volunteers?

Once you have registered and have been approved as a volunteer, you will be given a volunteer pass to gain entry to the institution(s) you will be serving in.

Training

New volunteers will undergo Prison Basic Volunteer Training to familiarise them with the prisons environment and the dos' and don'ts during their volunteering. They will also be equipped with the skills and knowledge to conduct effective and purposeful session with the inmates.

Volunteers can also look forward to accredited Intermediate and Advance Volunteer Training which are certified by SSTI. These trainings will enhance them with skills and competencies in their role as Prison volunteers.

In addition, volunteers are also invited to attend regular dialogue sessions with their institution's management staff such as the OC Programme. The dialogue sessions allow the institution's management and volunteers to discuss on issues related to their volunteering. The OC Programme oversees the programmes for inmates in each institution. He or she also schedules the Prison volunteers to the respective volunteer services within the institution such as religious counselling, academic programmes etc.

Appreciation

In appreciation of our volunteers' contribution to the rehabilitation efforts, an annual appreciation luncheon is organised at the end of each year. The volunteers will be invited to lunch where, beside a sumptuous feast, they will also be treated to performances put up by the inmates and / or other volunteers and staff.

Recognition

There are three categories of awards to recognise the contribution of deserving volunteers. The categories are:

  • Long Service award
  • Outstanding Initiative award
  • Outstanding Contribution award
